Bell Bistro, a fresh dining concept from Bloomfield Hills-based Cicero Hospitality Group, has opened its doors at 185 N. Old Woodward Ave., occupying the space formerly home to Mad Hatter in downtown Birmingham.
The restaurant is named in honor of the building’s original owner, Samuel Oliver Wylie Bell, and features a menu of New American-style dishes crafted by executive chef Gabriel Botezan, alongside a carefully curated selection of beer, wine, and cocktails.
The 3,000-square-foot space, designed in collaboration with Ann Arbor-based Bowers + Associates, blends contemporary design with organic touches to create a warm and welcoming environment.
“In order to highlight the cuisine, the owners wanted a modern bistro environment that emphasized warmth through soft, earthy tones and gentle lighting,” Ursula Skoczylas, senior interior designer at Bowers + Associates, said Tuesday. “The neutral wood finishes, subtle botanical touches, and graceful arches create an inviting atmosphere that feels both contemporary and organically comforting for social connection, from an early dinner to evening cocktails.”
Bell Bistro’s menu caters to diverse tastes, with standout dishes such as Wagyu Meatballs, Rigatoni Alla Gricia, Langos, Steak Frites, and the Bell Smash Burger. For dessert, pastry chef Gabriela Botezan, wife of executive chef Gabriel Botezan, delivers indulgent creations like Papanași, Parliament Walnut Cake, Olive Oil Cake Bar, and Raspberry Chocolate Tart.
“At Bell Bistro, we offer a unique blend of ingenuity and quality, making it perfect for a quick mid-week dinner or formal, private events,” Randy Dickow, managing partner and food & beverage director for Cicero Hospitality Group, said. “We’ve designed this space to feel comfortable yet elegant, ensuring that every guest feels welcome.”
The bar offers a selection of craft cocktails, mocktails, local beers, and fine wines. Signature cocktails include The Bellerina, The Belfry, Verdita, and the Mulled Over.
“Bell Bistro reflects our team’s vision to bring another unique dining experience to metro Detroit,” said Martin Pakideh, principal of Cicero Hospitality Group. “Downtown Birmingham has always been a top dining destination, and we are proud to be part of this vibrant community.”
Shawn Namou, managing partner of Namou Hotel Group and a partner in Bell Bistro, added, “Bell Bistro is a celebration of exceptional service and hospitality, and our goal is to give each guest an experience that is as inviting and memorable as the food itself.”
Bell Bistro offers multiple distinct dining spaces, with 36 seats in the main dining room, 12 seats at the bar, 30 seats at the lower level, and a private dining room with room for up to 30 guests.
